Opinion: Debate - Should teachers be rewarded for turning up towork?

1 min read
Teachers at a Manchester school who go to work every day for the entire academic year will be rewarded with a chance to win 100 vouchers. A 50 prize is available for those with 100 per cent attendance over a term

YES - Hannah Gibney, 16

In other jobs there are incentives for people to do well. Some companiesaward holidays to encourage staff to give their best, so it's fair ifthey want to reward teachers. If it was a more substantial prize itmight be wrong - if they got a pay rise. But I don't think they'd puttheir health on the line for the chance of winning shopping vouchers. And I'm not sure as a pupil you'd see a teacher being rewarded the extramoney and think "the only reason I should do things is for money". You'dbe glad your teacher was getting something good.
