Every school should look at doing it. It's important to give every childa chance to grow and achieve. In the late 1990s there was a lot ofresearch in the US about year-round education. This work found the longsummer break was a drain on the education of children who are moreacademically challenged. If we want every child to matter we have torecognise this. The long summer holiday is greatly appreciated by both teachers andpupils alike. Over a long school year it takes a week for teachers towind down. Preparation is considerable for the start of the year inSeptember and the shorter the summer holidays the less time they willhave. There are also big problems with siblings at other schools. Thejunior feeder schools for Greensward are on different terms and thatmakes it a problem for parents.
