YES - David Hawker, vice-chair of the Association of Directors of Education and Children's Services
We welcome this proposal in principle. Children's social workers do one of the most demanding jobs in local government, and it is vital that we keep a skilled and experienced workforce. This should not be seen as undermining the structure of the social work profession. Introducing such a scheme must be done sensitively, to avoid discouraging social workers in less-hard-to-recruit specialisms, and we must beware of the dangers of 'bidding wars'.
