John Goldup, who took up the new post of Ofsted's director of social care in July, labelled attacks on the experience of inspectors of social care settings as "extraordinarily unfair".
"We have an experienced social care workforce largely that came over from the Commission for Social Care Inspection," he said. "We have also got an opportunity to bring fresh talent into the workforce recruiting for additional inspectors."
Senior figures including president of the Association of Directors of Children's Services Kim Bromley-Derry and Hampshire's director of children's services John Coughlan have slammed the watchdog's new social care inspection regime for its rigidness and focus on process.
