Obesity: Healthy eating message needs to be more innovative to work

As well as outlining 70 recommendations by MPs, the report criticises the Government's lack of action on obesity. It recommends an education campaign on healthy eating, along with practical information on food and labelling for young people.

The Health Committee document recommends three hours of physical activity a week for young people. It also calls on the food and drink industries to comply with a voluntary code of ethics to cover the advertising of junk food to young people.

Ruth Angel, health promotion co-ordinator for the Healthy Youth Centre project in Bournemouth, said body image and emotional wellbeing should also be tackled by education programmes for teenagers.
