Developed as part of The Youth of Today programme, the framework provides a common language for establishing youth leadership and a youth-led approach to leadership progression.
The toolkit shows how the framework can be used to help organisations develop their leadership programmes, seek collaboration and assess the impact of their activities on young people. It also provides examples of how the framework can be used to support young people to reflect on their experience and identify their own progression based on their aspirations and interests.
A variety of leadership opportunities are available to young people - many of which are available through the Global Optimists website. Many opportunities however require membership or long-term commitment to an organisation; as such these opportunities often go to the "usual suspects". Even with opportunities that are widely accessible to any young person, it is not always possible for a young person to identify where it fits within their own youth leadership progression. The framework makes it easy to compare opportunities.
