The Royal College of Nursing's Adolescence, Boundaries and Connections guide was published after nurses raised concerns about a lack of support materials to tackle the issue of adolescent care.
The guide covers building relationships with young people, the importance of confidentiality, consent to treatment and how best to support adolescents. It also includes comments from young people and practical tips, such as making medical appointments that fit with young people's body clocks or extra-curricular activities and being sensitive when asking them to undress during ward rounds or medical examinations.
