Numbers game Youthful rebellion

1 min read

The researchers discovered that young people in this age group often did not fit the stereotype of noisy, rebellious youth. Ninety-four per cent of respondents thought a great night out involved getting together with their friends and doing something simple, while 53 per cent said staying out all night was not their idea of a good time. Only 13 per cent weren't interested in having a healthy lifestyle, while 74 per cent said they thought it was possible to "live life to the full" and stay healthy.

Michael Gillespie, of youth research consultancy, Vegas said: "It may seem surprising that today's teens are less rebellious than their predecessors, but that's because the rebels won. Baby boomer parents actively rebelled against their parents' values and consequently changed their own parenting style." Only five per cent of respondents said their parents did not understand them, and 53 per cent described their parents as "good mates".
