A young person quoted in the charity's new Stress: Tackling it With Teenagers book, said: "You've got to handle the stress, it's a teenage thing. There's not a lot they can do."
Adrienne Katz, chief executive of Young Voice, said: "Teenagers are often dealing with the fallout from their parents' stress."
Katz called on youth workers and the youth service to prioritise stress.
"The main thing is to address it. Let young people know it's not a sign of weakness," she said.
Highlighted in the book are results from a poll called Wassup?, carried out by Young Voice for Waltham Forest and Redbridge Youth Rising Project with more than 1,000 13- to 26-year-olds. This demonstrates how very stressed young people cope. Turning to drugs is the choice of one in seven, as is turning to alcohol, while half stay in their room. Worryingly, only a couple of per cent would call a helpline.
