More crucially, the survey demonstrated that young people are finding a tangible use for Connexions. Researchers asked respondents who had done something for the first time because of Connexions what actions it had triggered. A fifth landed or looked for jobs, a further fifth went to or applied to go to college.

Seventeen per cent took up an apprenticeship or work-based training.

Others started voluntary work or applied to go to university, all of which they had not thought of doing before receiving Connexions' advice.

The researchers reported that just under half of respondents said Connexions had made them more confident.
