The Zest project is funded by Children in Need to provide counselling support to young people up to the age of 18.
It is planning to develop services in Belfast, Enniskillen, and Coleraine or Ballymena for next year. The project is also the representative for Northern Ireland on the National Inquiry on Self-Harm, a UK-wide inquiry on self-harm among young people.
Noella McConnellogue, the project's manager, said: "There is a need for service provision on suicide and self-harm, and we hope to provide some sort of resource for the community." Funding has been raised from the Tudor Trust and the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety to help staff the service. Young people will be able to access it through self-referrals, their GP, an agency or Zest's helpline.
