NORTHERN IRELAND: Belfast City Council unveils racism plan

Building our Futures Together aims to promote the fair treatment and understanding of all faiths in the city, as well as deal with the ongoing problem of sectarianism, with a focus on young people.

The Belfast Education and Library Board, which has responsibility for running local youth services, has been involved in the co-ordination of the strategy.

John McLaughlin, area youth officer for the board, said: "Historically, the library board funds dealt with sectarianism only. But with so many ethnic groups now living in post-conflict Belfast, we will broaden our funding criteria this year to benefit youth services in the community."
