
“We recruit international social workers through our own in-house programme,” says a council spokesperson. “It's very much part of our wider work to recruit and retain a stable cohort of children's social workers here in Norfolk.”
The authority says it also works hard to recruit staff from the UK.
International workers come from countries including South Africa and Zimbabwe to take up the £31,895-a-year role. They are offered a “welcome payment” and relocation payment as part of the programme. Targeted support for overseas social workers lasts for around 18 months.
The council aims to recruit 12 overseas social workers a year, which was exceeded last year when 17 joined.
