A week in the life of Donna Hilton, manager of Nottingham University Hospitals Youth Service.
Monday - We have a daily drop-in session, used mainly by inpatients. It's a chance for them to get off the ward, ask us questions and hang out with other young people. They know they'll be treated as young people first instead of patients.
Tuesday - Sometimes we run informal education sessions, which cover issues such as bullying. Bullying is something young people with long-term conditions often experience and it is important to talk about it.
Wednesday - We run a youth club on Monday and Wednesday nights, which outpatients find particularly welcome. It is an environment where long-term conditions are understood. We had one young man come to us recently with a kidney condition who didn't feel comfortable going to his local youth club.
