
In a setting far removed from your average youth club, 17 members of youth parliament (MYPs) from across South East England came together at Henley Business School in Reading last week to debate what — if anything — they should do to fight proposed cuts to youth and Connexions services.
Facing the prospect of the young people they represent losing youth clubs and access to advice and guidance services, Reading MYP Josh Harsant arranged the event to establish the strength of opinion among fellow MYPs in the South East.
During the debate, the MYPs were divided over what precise action should be taken, but were united in the belief that they needed to do something to stop young people's services from becoming an easy target for public sector cutbacks.
