
Children's minister Sarah Teather reignited the debate over the merits of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) when she announced a review of how it is run last week.
The review will be led by Clare Tickell, chief executive of children's charity Action for Children, who will release her findings in a report due for publication early next year.
The main criticisms of the EYFS have always been that it creates too much paperwork for practitioners who are obliged to regularly record observations and complete self-evaluations, and that it puts too much emphasis on the attainment and achievement of children, rather than play-based development.
