
As a former Barclays managing director with a double first in economics from Cambridge under his belt, David Laws knows his sums.
He is therefore aware that his party's wishlist for the children's sector isn't compatible with the current financial situation.
Highlighting the "pupil premium" education package as a priority policy, Laws concedes other proposals for the sector will only be achieved as and when money becomes available.
"We are the only party saying we would make education a priority,"
he says. "We will introduce the pupil premium whereby money will follow disadvantage so those with the greatest need will get the most money.
"We think that those schools with high levels of challenge deserve to have a high level of funding."
