The government last week announced that local authorities across England would begin training staff to use ContactPoint.
Staff in 17 early adopter local authorities will be trained first, along with professionals from two charities, Barnardo's and Kids.
By the time the database is fully functional, at least 390,000 professionals will be expected to use it.
Every one of those will be subject to a rigorous accreditation process, identity checks and an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check.
Each user will also be subject to shielding training, which will focus on how to conceal the records of vulnerable children and how to deal with requests to view this sensitive data. It will be down to the individual council to determine which children are vulnerable enough to merit this measure.
