Many practitioners continue to face barriers to joint working, a year after Lord Laming published his verdict on child protection services in England.
Laming highlighted evidence of the challenges of working across organisational boundaries and called on practitioners, local authorities and government to embrace the ethos of bringing services together under the Every Child Matters agenda.
The report cited examples of poor practice where child protection conferences were not attended by all services involved in a child's life and called on the government to revise the Working Together to Safeguard Children guidance.
Practical advice
But leading children's services figures have criticised the government's attempts to improve the guidance, published with revisions last week, arguing it is too policy-heavy and lacks the practical advice needed to remodel children's services.
