The Children Bill was debated for the first time in the Commons on Monday when it had its second reading. No changes will be made to the Bill until October when it reaches the committee stage. Separately, Baroness Cathy Ashton, the junior education minister in charge of Sure Start and early years who steered the Children Bill through the Lords, has been replaced by Lord Filkin in the Prime Minister's reshuffle.
