NEWS IN BRIEF: School workers should get Criminal Records Bureau checks says union

School cleaners, caretakers, administrative and clerical staff should be subjected to enhanced Criminal Records Bureau checks, says the National Association of Schoolteachers Union of Women Teachers. In its evidence to the Bichard Inquiry into the Soham murders, the union said the requirements for enhanced checks should be "triggered by the potential for any employee who works regularly on the premises to have unsupervised access to pupils, not by the provisions of a job description".
