NCB Now: Vision for museum futures in the South West is unveiled

1 min read
In December those involved in Stories of the World South West met to take forward children and young people's participation in museums, recognising they can offer one of the few public places and spaces for the young without prejudice.

Their vision is of a shared space of shared interest where people, including the young, can let their minds roam free and can make whatever connections and conversations they want.

The clear aim is "to energise activity with and for children and young people to facilitate connections between them and the world culturally and historically".

Objectives were agreed, including for children and young people to influence decision making; to harness partnerships; and to ensure collecting, collections and the environment of museums are culturally, socially and physically relevant to children and young people.

The key challenge is to move from occasional activities to participation built in throughout a museum's decision making.
