NCB Now: State of residential childcare examined

Jonathan Stanley from NCB's Children's Residential Care Unit discussed the state of England's residential childcare settings during a keynote speech at an open day held at Mulberry Bush School in Oxfordshire on 15 April.

He highlighted the sector's improving standards of care and welcomed the Children's Workforce Strategy for encouraging the recognition of residential childcare as a professional task.

In view of the current reshaping of children's services Jonathan called for greater appreciation of the role of residential care in enabling effective assessment and evaluation of vulnerable children.

He concluded by considering how the residential sector can be more actively involved in the regional commissioning and development of services.
