Brought together by Thurrock Council's playbuilder leads, Sylvia Yates and Andrea Winterflood, they were taking part in a pilot for Play Shaper, a training programme being developed for roll-out nationally this autumn.
Play Shaper targets those with a key role in shaping the environments children grow up in, giving them an understanding of the value of play, their roles in developing child-friendly communities, and the benefits of applying an understanding of play, whether in policing, planning, procurement or other disciplines.
In Thurrock, the conversation focused on the importance of risk and challenge, of providing opportunities for different types of play and on the importance of involving children, young people and their communities in the design and maintenance of play spaces.
