NCB Now: Service provides statistics on children

Did you know that 300 babies are born every year with sickle cell disorders, 3,385 decisions were made in the UK in 2007 on applications from unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, or that the average rate of pocket money for five- to 16-year-olds is 9.90 a week?

NCB's Library and Information Service produces a report that catalogues key sources of statistical information on children and young people as published by the government, research institutes and other independent bodies.

The report, Statistics on Children and Young People, provides an extensive guide to the latest facts and figures on issues that concern children and young people to enable shared knowledge on sector developments in research and policy. The report, which is available to NCB members through the website, presents a digest of statistical information, arranged under a wide range of subject headings, and lists web links to allow the reader to access sources directly. The publication is updated monthly to include the latest government statistical bulletins and figures as published in Hansard and findings from research studies.
