The government is proposing radical changes to the NHS and public health sector over the next three years. In response, NCB will be intensifying its children's health policy work to ensure that decision-makers have children and young people at the forefront of their minds as these reforms are implemented.
Measures in July's NHS white paper will have a significant impact on children and young people, particularly those most vulnerable to poor health outcomes. However, the white paper raises many questions. Will the GP consortia have a sufficient understanding of children's needs to commission effectively? What role will health and wellbeing boards play in bringing the health sector together with other children's services? Will children and young people be a priority within the local authority-led public health service?
