NCB Now: News from Wales - Family and parenting support

Delegates from 22 EU member states met in Brussels this month for the Eurochild General Assembly. For the past two years, Children in Wales has chaired the Family and Parenting Support Thematic Working Group of Eurochild.

Changes in society, the economy, values and lifestyles impact on how the current generation of children are raised, and family policy must respond to this. The group's discussion focused on how parenting support is framed in terms of creating the right conditions for positive parenting. This involves both empowering parents and removing existing barriers, for example by promoting a better reconciliation of family and working life.

A final version of common definitions is due for publication in November.
