NCB Now: Meeting explores PSHE approaches

Education professionals had the opportunity to learn more about normative approaches to personal, social and health education at a consultation meeting organised by NCB last month.

Normative approaches can help reduce factors such as peer pressure bydebunking myths about young people's behaviour - for example, the ideathat it is "normal" to smoke - and stressing the reality in a positivelight.

The consultation was the second of three Home Office-funded meetings toinform a series of written briefings on PSHE.

Speaking at the meeting were Wes Perkins, Hobarts and William SmithCollege, New York State, and Niall Coggins, Strathclyde University.
