NCB Now: Informing politicians about Neets

1 min read
The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Employment and Learning has announced an inquiry into young people aged 16 to 24 not in education, employment or training (Neet), and is calling for interested organisations to submit recommendations.

NCB Northern Ireland will feed in to the consultation using its expertise in working with children and young people in Northern Ireland, and drawing on NCB research and policy in the areas of alternative education and youth unemployment. It will also examine existing strategies to engage young people who are Neet in England.

The inquiry seeks to establish the characteristics, experiences and barriers common to those young people who are Neet and discover which prevention and intervention strategies best serve to reduce their numbers. It is also looking to establish best practice for working with Neets, on monitoring young people who are disengaged from education, employment or training, and to establish the key elements required to develop a successful strategy for targeting young people who are Neet.
