NCB Now: Good practice for rural working

1 min read
There is much good practice that can be built upon when working with rural children and young people. For example, the early development of Sure Start centres pioneered approaches to reach the most disadvantaged families.

Some rural schools have GP-run health services on-site, which young people can attend to discuss issues, as well as get treatment for everyday illnesses. Other schools have clubs and activities, which are held during the day or have arranged for later school buses to take children home.

All members of the Coalition for Rural Children and Young People have developed good practice in this area. Prince's Trust has developed a flexible approach that provides rural children and young people with laptops so they can keep in touch regardless of their vicinity. The Children's Society has been working with local authorities and parish councils to provide improved play facilities in isolated villages.
