Eurochild's recent seminar, Improving the Wellbeing of Young Children in Europe: The Role of Early Years Services, highlighted the need for an EU framework that supports a holistic approach and recognises the wide range of benefits services can offer.
European child policy experts at the event also called for a programme of research and the dissemination of effective models and practice at an European level.
Scottish Labour MEP Catherine Stihler, who hosted the event, said: "We need practical and sustainable goals and solutions in order to tackle child poverty at a Scottish, UK and Europe-wide level."
Early years education and care is one of Eurochild's three thematic working groups and is recognised as significant to ensuring quality of childhood, particularly in an environment where the demand for children's services is rising.
