NCB Now: Conference offers new perspective

Professionals from a range of children's services met to discuss the future of young citizenship in this country and consider what can be learnt from international projects at a conference held in Liverpool on 7 October.

Organised by NCB and Liverpool based social care charity PSS, the conference highlighted how active participation and citizenship initiatives can support young people, especially those from marginalised groups, to develop learning and life skills.

An international perspective was provided by Martin Prescott, co-coordinator of Alliance Family Counselling, a family support group operating under the Uniting Church in Australia. Martin spoke about the family counselling project he leads in Australia in the context of young citizenship.

The conference also included a session from Wolf-Rudiger Pfaiz, director of a German children's home, on new directions in citizenship for vulnerable young people in Germany.
