The proposals form part of the Children Bill, which will provide the framework for establishing information sharing systems.
Exactly how these systems will work has yet to be finalised, but the decisions made will draw on the experience of the 15 trailblazer local authorities currently piloting ISA.
The aim of ISA is to enable different professionals to use technology to indicate their involvement, check core facts and flag up concerns they may have about individual children. At its best, the system has the potential not only to enhance child protection, but also to support preventive work - for instance, by using gaps in data to identify a child without access to a GP.
