NCB Now: Bespoke training for practitioners

1 min read
Lucy Williamson, recruitment and training officer at Wolverhampton Early Years, Childcare and Play Service, wanted to ensure all staff in Wolverhampton's day nurseries were aware of their responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). She also wanted whole nursery teams to access training together to reflect on attitudes and create environments that celebrate difference. Here she explains how she went about achieving this.

- How did you find appropriate training?

I did some research and NCB's Inclusion Matters course seemed to match our requirements. NCB was very accommodating in adapting the content to meet the needs of our practitioners. NCB then travelled to Wolverhampton to meet staff from the settings and many were inspired to sign up there and then.

- How else did you tailor the training?

Nurseries provide a service during the week, so we tailored training to be delivered on two consecutive Saturdays. Some settings were combined and this resulted in networking, which was great. The commitment was excellent with 320 staff in 23 settings attending.
