A 126m government programme is attempting to reach the most "disengaged" teenagers in England and get them back into education or training places by offering providers payments based on results

At least 55,000 16- and 17-year-olds will be targeted under the government’s latest bid to raise the prospects of young people not in education, employment or training (Neet).

The scheme forms part of the Youth Contract and will eventually see as much as £126m paid to organisations in England that successfully support "disengaged" young people of school leaving age into education or training.

Tender documents drawn up by the Department for Education (DfE), Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Young People’s Learning Agency (YPLA) reveal that the YPLA will commission contracts in 12 areas in England, based on estimated numbers of Neet young people.
