National Youth Agency: Money course pays dividends

1 min read
Development officers working for West Lothian Credit Union have found new ways to get young people to think about money, thanks to the techniques they learned at a National Youth Agency training course.

Janet Mundy and her colleague attended the Money Mastery course in Edinburgh hoping they would obtain a better understanding of the young people they support.

"We work with a broad range of young people, all with different backgrounds and approaches to money," said Mundy.

"One of the greatest challenges we face is getting them to think about what money is and where it comes from. We knew the key to helping them was through us understanding their motivations and beliefs better, so that we can empower them to become financially independent and give them a more positive approach to their money."

The course looked at the psychology of money and taught Mundy and her colleague about young people's personal value systems and how to approach them.
