My Life: Ashley Cooke, 16, Oxford

I'm in a band called The Youngs Plan. We used to be called Silverpenny but we changed it to show our maturity, because we had changed a lot since we first got together in 2002. It's good because we've been mates since primary school - the music really works because we've formed such a good friendship.

We entered the Rock Idol competition last year. We had to travel toBirmingham to perform and there were about 30 bands. People could go onthe internet to watch the performances and could submit votes. Weperformed a song we had written called Right. We found out we had won itwhen we were recording a CD at a studio and we were so surprised andhappy. We got software and money for the school and a trip to Kerrang!studios and some recording time.

Now we want to get out there a bit more and because we're a bit oldernow we can do gigs in Oxford and play in a style that we really wantto.
