Children learn about these things in class and are then encouraged to make healthy choices about what they eat.
The Department of Health and the Department for Education and Skills jointly run the Food in Schools programme, which helps schools to plan their food education. And many schools now give their children a piece of fruit every day as part of the School Fruit Scheme.
