Met set to target children at risk

1 min read Youth Justice
Police squads in London will start passing information on to other agencies about young people they suspect aren't achieving the five Every Child Matters outcomes from next month, CYP Now can reveal.

The Metropolitan Police has set up public protection desks in all 32 London boroughs to identify at-risk young people earlier.

Officers who come across young people not achieving the outcomes will log reports on the Met's Merlin IT system. These reports will be accessed by the protection desks, which will pass information on to relevant agencies, such as social services and the NHS, and look at ways police can help.

Inspector Alan Hodges, who leads the Met's Every Child Matters work, said all officers up to inspector level were being trained on the strategy and they should use their common sense on whether it was necessary to complete a Merlin report.
