Met failing some at-risk children, report finds

The Met did not do enough to find missing children and follow lines of enquiry to trace offenders, states His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS), following the latest inspection.

Some missing children were wrongly categorised as ‘medium risk’ when the risk to them was high.

The findings follow on from a highly critical report in 2023, which found the Met was failing children in care who go missing, ineffective at assessing the risk of sexual exploitation, used "victim-blaming language" and was slow to respond "if at all" to reports of runaways from local authority homes.
