Mental Health: Teenage diagnosis highest in 30 years

The long-term study, Time Trends in Adolescent Mental Health, compared the mental health of teenagers across the UK in 1974, 1986 and 1999.

It found increases in both emotional and behavioural problems, including depression, anxiety and stress for both males and females. There was no difference between ethnic groups.

Researchers found that one in five 15-year-old girls had emotional problems and that boys demonstrated higher levels of behaviour problems.
