MENTAL HEALTH: How young people regard services

The findings from Where Next? New directions in in-patient services for young people are being presented today (7 May) at a one-day conference at County Hall in Westminster.

Over two years, YoungMinds interviewed 107 young people, 170 staff and 35 parents connected with six in-patient mental health units across England and Wales.

Dinah Morley, deputy director of YoungMinds, said: "It reiterated things that continue to need to be hammered home. Services need to be more local and accessible. Young people need to be kept in the community, if possible.

And there needs to be support for families whose children are quite ill." The project was funded by the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund.
