Mental health care overhaul for Surrey

1 min read Health Social Care
Children in care and young people with eating disorders are to get fresh support as part of a shake-up of Surrey's mental health services.

From 1 April, the county's child and adolescent mental health services will all be provided by the Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust instead of by three separate providers.

As part of the restructuring, the trust plans to create an eating disorder service for young people, which will offer consultation, support and a way into hospital for more severe cases.

Angela Sergeant, senior service improvement manager at Surrey County Council, said: "We already have some good eating disorder services and we want to roll them out so they are Surrey-wide."

There will also be a dedicated service for young people in care offering assessments, consultation and therapy sessions. A family therapy service for young people with learning disabilities and mental health problems, currently running in east Surrey, will also be expanded.
