The investigation is due to be completed in 2010 and will result in extensive guidance on how to improve the physical and emotional health of children in care. The Department of Health-ordered review will also look at the effectiveness and value for money of various methods of working with looked-after children. The resulting guidance will contain recommendations on how services for children in care should operate.
John Kemmis, chief executive of social care charity Voice, said the review's conclusions would be important for the sector. "I hope that what comes out of it is a picture that allows children to access all services applicable to any child that may have lost a family or didn't have supportive adult relationships in the past," he said. "They need these services to help them move on and feel able to cope."
