A report by the Children, Schools and Families Select Committee said teachers were anxious about a lack of training on the qualifications, which will begin to be taught in September.
The MPs' report on testing and assessment also said the work-based learning aspects of the diploma presented problems, such as how to handle child protection checks on employees in the businesses taking part.
The report also criticised the emphasis on test results in England's education system. The MPs said the focus on results meant teachers were "teaching to test" and ignoring some parts of the curriculum, which could harm children's education.
The committee said the government should create incentives for schools to teach the whole curriculum and examine further the impact of "teaching to test" on pupils' education.
