Johnson was grilled by MPs on Parliament's Education and Skills SelectCommittee last week. It was his first appearance before the MPs sincetaking over from Ruth Kelly in May.
Asked about his priorities for the next comprehensive spending review,he said: "I think looked-after children. It probably won't register onthe Richter scale because there's only 60,000 of them but theirtreatment has been pretty dreadful by successive governments. I thinkthat's a priority but it's not hugely expensive just to concentrate onsome of the problems that a corporate parent has with thesechildren."
He also said he expected extended schools to help children who reachsecondary school unable to read.
