Long journeys for cancer care

Health
Children with cancer are travelling hundreds of miles to receive outpatient services because of a lack of specialist cancer nurses.

Charity Clic Sargent claims that of the 3,600 children receiving cancertreatment at any one time, there are only enough specialist nurses toprovide support for around 2,400 (66 per cent) at home.

Other children can face long journeys to receive the services theyneed.

Susan George, assistant director of service at Clic Sargent, said anextra 40 positions are required in addition to the existing 80specialist nurses.
