Cancer charity to extend youth worker programme

1 min read Health Youth Work
CLIC Sargent is to expand a youth work programme that helps young cancer patients cope with education, training and employment.

The Young People’s Community Workers (YPCWs) programme has helped 220 young people over the past two years, and CLIC Sargent says it wants to invest a further £3m annually to expand it.

As part of plans to double its number of workers over the next five years, the children's cancer charity wants to develop a regional network of community workers across the UK and develop online support for young sufferers of the disease.

The YPCW programme was launched in September 2011 to provide support for young people aged 16 to 24 who had been diagnosed with cancer. It has a particular focus on education, training, employment and social wellbeing, with five community workers providing tailored support.
