The poll of 173 voluntary and community organisations in 86 localauthorities, commissioned by the National Association for Voluntary andCommunity Action, found 68 per cent experienced cuts in the last year.More than half said services previously delivered by voluntaryorganisations had been taken in-house by local authorities in the lastyear, and four out of 10 said efficiency savings were the biggest reasonfor cuts.
Kevin Curley, chief executive of the association, said preventativeservices were particularly hard-hit. "There is a danger we will losevital preventative work by small groups," he said.
Claire Tickell, chief executive of NCH, said the result of cuts topreventative services would be more young people being taken into careor going through the criminal justice system.
