LIVERPOOL: Children's services action is averted

Planned industrial action in Liverpool's children's services department was averted last week following last-minute talks between unions and the council.

Unison members had threatened to work to rule on Wednesday over a dispute about new working practices.

A spokeswoman for the council said: "We are keen for industrial action not to take place. We do not want any disruption to the vulnerable children in our care.

"No action has yet taken place and talks are continuing with the union. It's all relatively quiet and we hope it remains so."
